We know traffic jam, a long line of vehicles, cannot move forward because there is too much traffic or blocked by something. and we wait and wait and back home with sorrow mind. Everyday we went out for our destination and face the same traffic problem and blame the system. we think we are stuck in the traffic jam but we don't think, in the jam we are shucked actually created by us.

Traffic Jam

What is the main problem of traffic jam? Roads are bad and too narrow, Too many cars and rickshaws, unskilled drivers, unfit transports, lack of traffic system, government don't take adequate step to reduce traffic jam etc. etc.

Do you think why roads are bad and narrow? why too many cars and rickshaws? because a lot of people live there. I am talking about Dhaka as it is the capital of my country.

More than 36 percent of the country's urban population living in Dhaka only. according to the Population and Housing Census 2022, 44 million people now live in Dhaka division. And the population growth in the Dhaka division is 1.94.

So now let's see how many vehicles are there-

  • 0.166 million cars in Dhaka.
  • 0.4 million± rickshaws in Dhaka.
  • 20 thousand ± buses and mini buses provide service in Dhaka.

For 44 million people, is this too big number of car, rickshaws, buses in Dhaka? definitely not, I think.

What I am telling you by showing these numbers is we see the number of vehicles not our populations. and the psychology of us is if we could afford a car we definitely will buy it. ask your self do you want a car or not? so are others.

From last couple of years our government hardly try to build some flyover for reducing the traffic jam but now we see traffic jam in flyover. so where is the problem? yes we are the problem, even when you don't agree with me. Look in Average 1278 people (per square kilometer) live in Bangladesh but only In Dhaka there is 23,234 people live in per square kilometer. If our population is increasing by 1.94% every year, what else can we develop to reduce traffic jams?

The motorized vehicles cannot surpass an average speed of more than 7.0 km per hour here by any means. Many experts, however, opine that the actual speed cannot be over 6.0 km on an average. that is slightly more than a walking speed. so why not we walk some km? why not we walk to home from bus stopes? not many people do. if we decentralize our capital or expand the metropolitan area to reduce population in per square kilometer, it might help to reduce traffic jam.

In the end we come in Dhaka for our living, education or our job or anything and so other people come. and this progress wont stop. so the problem we facing is our problem and we created it together. we want to go as fast as we can and we make a mixed traffic jam that our small number of traffic police can't handle and also we don't follow their all command implausibly.

If you don't agree with me I invite you in the comment section. Thank you for Reading
